Anouk Aimée, the French film actress who became an international sex symbol as the aloof, enigmatic, and sensual star of Claude Lelouch's 1966 masterpiece "A Man and a Woman," has died at the age of 92.

Born Nicole Françoise Florence Dreyfus on April 27, 1932, Aimée began her acting career as a child. In 1948, she played the part of Juliette in "The Lovers of Verona." She went on to star in over 100 films, working with some of Europe's most influential directors, including Roberto Rossellini, Vittorio De Sica, and Federico Fellini.

Aimée's breakthrough role came in Lelouch's "A Man and a Woman." The film, which won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival, tells the story of a widow (Aimée) and a widower (Jean-Louis Trintignant) who meet and fall in love. Aimée's performance was praised for its subtlety and emotional depth, and she became an international star.

Aimée continued to act throughout her career, appearing in films such as "La Dolce Vita" (1960), "8½" (1963), and "The Great Gatsby" (1974). She also worked extensively in television, most notably in the French series "The Rehearsal" (1978-1980).

Aimée was a private person who rarely gave interviews. She was married twice, first to the actor Pierre Barouh and then to the director Daniel Toscan du Plantier. She had two children, a son, Sean Flynn, and a daughter, Salomé Lelouch.
